Our vision is to impact communities, cities and nations by bringing the good news that Jesus Christ is the answer. Our mission is to walk in love and freedom under God’s grace and to equip all followers of Jesus Christ with practical teaching, caring and encouragement to enable each one to reach their full potential as believers.
In obedience to the Word of God, revealed to Pastor Ben Schlachter in December 1999, the church was started on 1 March 2000 and based on the unchanging word of God. Twenty people met for the first service at the Blue Waters Hotel Durban, the beginning of a church, independent of denominations.
In 2003 the church was officially registered Truth (‘Emet) Ministries as a Public Benefit Organisation
The word “truth”, given by the Lord to Pastor Ben from Psalm 25v5 “Lead me in your truth, and teach me; for you are the God of my salvation; on you I wait all the day”. In Hebrew, Truth is Emet, which is derived from the verb aman, meaning “to be firm, permanent and established.” “Emeth” Truth is therefore something upon which a person may confidently stake his life. Curiously, ”Emeth” is spelt with the first, middle and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet, thus the rabbis concluded that “truth” upholds the first and the last of God’s creation and everything in-between!
In July 2002, the church moves to the Durban Jewish Centre having outgrown the accommodation available at the Blue Waters Hotel.
The church, as well as being represented by local residents has in its congregation a number of refugees from as far as as DRC, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Burundi. We have seen the power of God touching peoples lives in the form of miracles of healing, restoration of personal lives and finding employment. In addition many members have borne testimony of release from the bondages of the law of religion and have rediscovered a fresh and vibrant love relationship with the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
In August 2001, an Apostolic call was birthed, whereupon Pastor Ben was called to nurture and encourage Churches in Mozambique. To date 32 Mozambican churches are affiliated with Truth Ministries and growing in numbers. There are churches in the DRC and Tanzania wanting to affiliate to us.
Pastor’s Ben and Merv are currently assisted by four Elders. William Sills, Greg Boswarva, Lorraine Woodenberg and Nathan Naidu, in addition to Home Cell Leaders who oversee the running of the church.
