Five individual, elegantly decorated thatch cottages are set in four hectares of landscaped gardens and paddocks. Two cottages have a cosy little “Robbers Den” in the loft - ideal for kids - whilst a separate rondavel is secluded and romantic - perfect for honeymooners.
Self-caterers are accommodated in a wing of the main house, which has two double bedrooms each with en suite bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and lounge/dining room.
Things to do
Winelands - The Stellenbosch Wine Route is one of the most popular attractions in the Western Cape. Daily wine tasting, cellar tours and sales are offered at most estates and many of these offer magnificent sit-down or picnic lunches. There are cheese farms and other cottage industries to explore, all within an easy day’s circuit which can include the Franschoek and Helderberg districts.
Restaurants - In addition to restaurants on each estate, there are many other fine restaurants in the area, including the Michelin Guide-rated Auberge du Paysan, and Winery 96 (Amex Top 100 for three consecutive years), both next door. Experience traditional Cape delicacies as well as gourmet cuisine from around the world. Most offer excellent local wine lists.
Useful Info
We have a Mediterranean climate in the Cape; but at opposite times of the year to Europe. Bring warm clothes and waterproofs in winter, and a pullover and a windcheater for any other time of year.
Our winter is in May to August, and there can be wet, very cold days (from 0 to 17 degrees) in between the cold, sunny ones. There is sometimes snow on the Heldeberg... a good time for snug country restaurants and bracing walks.
Spring is the time of flowers, when the famous ‘fynbos’ transforms into spectacular carpets of bloom - August / September.
Summer months, October to March are dry, with temperatures from 20-30 degrees relieved by the ‘Cape Doctor’ - a southeasterly wind that blows in the freshest air from across thousands of miles of open ocean.
Autumn (March to May) is delightful with moderate temperatures, lots of sunshine and very little wind.
