Our standard range of designs has been refined and developed over the years, and when ordering from a picture, it should be remembered that every piece will be unique, according to the grain of the wood and the history of the mature teak tree that was used.

Custom designs are often commissioned, particularly by Safari lodges and upmarket hotels where durability is of prime importance.

ZIMBABWEAN TEAK

• Zimbabwean Teak (Baikeia plurijuga) is a superior tropical hardwood indigenous to southern Africa, and is world famous for its beauty and durability. It becomes darker and more lustrous with age and usage.

Zimbabwean Teak is finer-grained and heavier than Asian teak species and is extremely stable in humid, cold or dry conditions, It is inadvisable to varnish or paint this exceptional wood if using outdoors, since varnishes will crackle and chip.


Baobab Industries is a family-owned business operating in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Our proximity to the Teak forests of western Zimbabwe allows us to choose timber at the source, picking out only the most suitable and best featured logs.

Sustainability: the state-owned Teak forests of Zimbabwe are protected by the national Forestry Commission, which harvests timber on a strictly rotational basis. While Baikiaea plurijuga is a slow-growing species endemic to the Kalahari sandveld ecosystem, the growing stock permits a sustainable yield well above the actual annual offtake.
