Biographies - Kevin

Kevin Hanssen
Known to his friends as "Horace", Kevin was born bald and screaming a month before Christmas in 1973. Nearly 21 years later on the 29th of October 1994 he kick-started Over the Edge by inviting a few of his friends to do some street theatre with him. Since then he has performed in most of the company's productions.

Kevin is a man of many varied talents. Formally trained as a primary school teacher, he taught high school for two years and then saxophone for a further two. A jock at school, playing provincial cricket, hockey and squash he's become a bit arty since leaving: Kevin plays the saxophone, clarinet, guitar and a smattering of piano and "mbira". He has written various bits of original music for Over the Edge, including the haunting theme in Born African and the tunes for Feste's songs in Twelfth Night. As a writer he has contributed to Over the Edge's sketch evenings, Completely Over the Edge, Anti-Panto 0.5, and co-wrote Born African.
More recently he has turned his attention to radio documentaries and audiobooks. Highlights include editing and writing for Monty Python's 'Pythons on the Pythons' audiobook/radio documentary, editing and sound design for Caroline Lawrence's Roman Mysteries audiobooks, 'Das Boot', original music for Sally Gardner audiobooks, as well as directing actors such as Christopher Cazenove, Tim Pigott-Smith and Michael Praed in the studio.
His TV and theatrical directing credits include a series of commercials for National Zimbabwean TV and several school plays. One play had a cast of a hundred and five teenagers. Perhaps his bravest undertaking yet he agreed to direct this production in 1997 without life insurance. He is still in his recovery period.

Part of his rehabilitation includes curries and whisky, thanks to a special man in Edinburgh and his wee collection of drams.
